3 Must-Haves for Every Eye-Catching Podcast Cover

May 04, 2021

If you want to start a podcast, the chances are that you will have to have some form of cover art. For many podcasters, this aspect of the process can be intimidating. Some may wonder how to find the art, and others may wish to design their own. Either way, it does not have to be a difficult or complex process.

The Spark Media team is here to provide guidance and to help walk you through the process. This post will discuss some factors to consider before designing a podcast cover, some online resources for podcast cover art, and some things that will help your podcast cover art to stand out.

Should I design my artwork, or should I outsource?

If you are thinking about hosting a podcast, it is essential to remember that the cover art often draws listeners to your show and makes them want to click on it in a directory. Your podcast cover art should be visually appealing, and it should captivate the audience. When deciding whether you wish to complete the artwork yourself or whether you want to hire it out, you should ask yourself these questions.

Can I think creatively about concepts and bring my vision to life?

Is design one of the gifts that God has uniquely placed within my heart?

Realistically, can I create an eye-catching piece of art? (Do I have the necessary equipment, skills, and abilities?)

If the answer to any of the above questions is no, the Spark Team suggests that you outsource the project to someone you can trust to help create the art you envision. We believe that there is nothing wrong with staying within your zone of expertise and genius. Capitalize on your strengths and work within the realm of talents and abilities with which God has blessed you. Outsource everything else to professionals whom you can trust.

Where can I find reputable designers of podcast cover art?

If you decide on outsourcing the work, the next step is determining who you will hire. We want to let you in on a little secret: Spark Media has alliances!

What are the must-haves for an eye-catching podcast cover?

Now that you have either decided to take on the project yourself or hired a designer, you must be aware of the three aspects of podcast art that every podcaster needs to consider.

Your cover needs color.

Regardless of what your show is about, you will want to incorporate your brand's colors. Consistent branding increases brand awareness and makes for a cohesive look that is appealing to most listeners.

Create a catchy title.

In addition to a pop of color, you will want to ensure that your show has a catchy title. The title will be what listeners remember, and it will keep them coming back to you for content.

Make sure that the font that you use is readable.

Avoid using colors that clash, and be sure that people from various backgrounds can read your art. If you use readable fonts, your cover will be more easily accessible for your listeners.
